Overview
The safety and security of our community and environment is of utmost importance to us. Law Enforcement and Traffic services are responsible for Municipal by-law enforcement and enforcement of the National Road Traffic Act.

Service mandate
Striving to fight crime and protecting our communities is a joint effort between communities, Law Enforcement and Traffic Services.

Function

• To create a safe and secure environment for all inhabitants of and visitors to the Koukamma Municipal area;
• To ensure a safe environment for all vehicular and pedestrian traffic in our area of jurisdiction and to combat crime and to enforce the law in all facets of the different legislation and Municipal by-laws;
• To promote responsible road usage by means of education and the enforcement of the different legislation; and
• To reduce the death rate on our roads and to ensure the free flow of traffic.

Fire and Rescue
Overview
Koukamma Fire Department strives to enable the community to prosper in a safe environment and has therefore set itself the goals of providing a comprehensive fire- fighting and fire safety services to prevent loss of life and property. The function of the Fire Department is to render a community-focused fire-fighting and fire safety service to prevent loss of life and property resulting from any natural or man-made occurrence.

Disaster Management
Overview
Koukamma Disaster Management with all sections and departments believe together we can take great strides to try and reduce the occurrence or impact of disasters and ensure that we can cope in the best way possible when they do occur. DISASTER MANAGEMENT IS EVERYONE’S BUSINESS.

Key Performance Areas
It is our aim at the Disaster Management to identify, prevent or reduce the occurrence of disasters, and to soften the impact of those hazards that cannot be prevented.

We perform a co-ordination role, ensuring that multiple emergency and essential services work in an integrated and efficient manner, both pro-actively (risk reduction, planning and preparedness) and re-actively (response, relief, recovery and rehabilitation). Respond to all types of incidents/emergencies. Emphasis must be made on planning and risk reduction to mitigate effect and impact Response must be coordinated and relief and recovery towards rehabilitation done as quickly as possible to bring those affected back to normality.

Parks & Recreational Section Core Function

• Monitoring cleansing of private properties

• Eradication of Alien invasive Plants

Cleansing

• Garden refuge collection from formal or informal household
•  Generating of Compost cleaning and Sweeping of streets
• Maintaining and beautifying municipal gardens

Cemeteries

• Managing and control Cemeteries
• Ensuring available space for burial within cemeteries terrains
• Providing adequate graves
• Built up graves
• Managing application of tariffs
• Keeping cemeteries record in place
• Upholding neatness
