WOMEN WORKING TOGETHER FOR RADIANT ECONOMIC TRANSFORMATION was the theme for the Koukamma Women’s Day Celebrations held on the 25 August 2015. Women all over the Koukamma municipal area gathered at the Misgunt Community Hall to commemorate this special day.
A number of government departments and entities also attended this event with the aim of empowering women through information to start-up businesses that can sustain themselves. These departments included:

Department of Trade and Industry
Department of Agriculture
Department of Justice
Department of Home Affairs
Department of Health
The Mayor of Koukamma Municipality Sam Vuso reflected on the role that women played in the liberation struggle. “On the 09 August 1956 women from all walks of life became equal partners in the struggle for non-racial, non-sexist South Africa when they marched to the Union Buildings in a quest to fight pass laws of the then government” he said. He further highlighted the very important role that women play in society. “Women are very important beings in our society, they are capable of doing everything, they nurture us and they stand for the truth“. He further encouraged women to take up leadership roles in society and utilise the information provided by the government departments to start up their own sustainable businesses.
