Members of the community, councillors, and municipal officials got to witness the turning of the first sod for a Multi-Purpose Community Centre that is to be erected in Ravinia. This ceremony was held on Tuesday the 10th March 2015 in Ravinia. “It is the mandate of government to provide facilities to the communities,” said Mayor Sam Vuso as he turned over the first spade of earth amidst much applause.
The Municipal Manager, Sabelo Nkuhlu shared the Mayors sentiments. “This is a project that was requested by the community through the Mayor’s Imbizo. The Mayor will hand it over to the community in September 2015 when construction has been completed. This project will create job opportunities for local people and advance local economic development. An amount of R7.2 million has been put aside for the construction of this MPCC. The sod turning ceremony symbolises the traditional launching of this project to be constructed,” said Nkuhlu.
“I am very happy today because I am here to fulfil what government has promised you. This is just the beginning for the community of Ravinia; a lot is still on the pipeline. It is thus important for the community and the municipality to work together. You are our electorate and we must deliver on your basic services in a respectful manner abiding to the Batho Pele principles. This is a government that listens and responds to the community’s needs,” said Mayor Vuso
The municipality has appointed a community liaison officer to liaise between the community, the councillor and the municipality. Consulting engineers from SRK Consulting have been employed for the design of the MPCC. The Municipal Manager further requested the community and the project managers to work together in harmony in implementing this project.
